Burning Glass (The Book I Neglected & Loved)

A couple years ago I went to a weeklong writing camp for teenagers. While I was there I had the opportunity to meet a handful of various authors. One of which was Kathryn Purdie, the author of the Burning Glass trilogy and the Bone Crier’s Moon books. She was so sweet when we met and I’ve been convinced ever since that we would be the best of friends if we’d had more than a minute to talk.

At the time of the writing camp, I didn’t own any of Kathryn Purdie’s books. But a few months later I found a lone copy of Burning Glass on a bookstore shelf. I was so thrilled that I purchased it immediately.

But here’s the sad part of this story: I kinda forgot I owned the book until this last spring. Can you believe it? I had met this author, been positive we could be best friends, bought her book, then forgot about it! Some best friend I am.

When I was looking at my bookcase one day, I remembered it and felt absolutely terrible for having forgotten. But I still didn’t read it! I was scared because of it being a fantasy book. You see, I get these weird notions into my mind where I am convinced I dislike a certain genre, and then I believe that for a long time.

I was finally brave enough to read Burning Glass sometime in May. I had been at an infusion, and wasn’t feeling well when I got home from the hospital. Upon picking up the book and reading the first chapter, I was completely hooked. The story was fantastic! I read it all in only a day or two and was so excited to get the second one. The second was equally great, and I plan to get the third book very soon.

I’m here to tell you that there is no reason for you to be scared of this YA book. I may have forgotten about it for a moment, but once I jumped in and started reading, I can’t forget it again. The story itself is unique and different than many things I typically read. I enjoyed the combination of fantasy, conflicting love triangle, mystery, and adventure.

Check out Kathryn Purdie’s books and website here. I always enjoy taking a look at this website because of the fun things Kathryn Purdie posts to go along with her books. And in addition to the posts, the blog itself is truly beautiful.

If you would like a more detailed description of this book and my thoughts on it, let me know in the comments section.

Happy Reading! XOXO, Jessa
